Individuals who place bets on sports in Delaware are no longer required to wait in line at a convenience store to place a bet, provided they go to one of the 89 lottery outlets that now feature sportsbook kiosks.
This week, the Delaware Lottery revealed that all retailers associated with the sports lottery now have independent sports betting kiosks. These sportsbook machines have also been installed within Bally’s Dover Casino Resort, Delaware Park Casino, and Harrington Raceway & Casino.
Officials from the lottery state that these devices enable patrons to place standard bets without needing to interact with a clerk at a lottery location. The kiosks offer fresh betting options that were not previously accessible at sports lottery retailers, such as player propositions, same-game parlays, and live in-game betting.
"As sports betting continues to grow in popularity, these self-service kiosks meet players where they are in terms of fitting wagering into their day as well as their particular preferences for wagering,” said Delaware Lottery Director Helene Keeley.
With the introduction of new wagering options, the kiosk system enables players to create bets online. After a bet is configured, a six-digit code gets produced, which can be inputted at the kiosk.
The pre-bet feature is referred to as BetAhead. According to Scientific Games, this option allows players to carefully evaluate their wagers, odds, and potential returns without feeling rushed by other bettors waiting by the kiosk.
Caesars-Backed Lottery Sportsbook
The Delaware Lottery has maintained a collaboration with Scientific Games for fifty years. The sports betting supplier, which split from what is now known as Light & Wonder in 2020, has been responsible for managing the sports betting operations of the Delaware Lottery since 2009.
Between 2009 and 2018, the Delaware sports lottery exclusively provided multigame parlays, which involve merging at least two wagers into a single bet.
Due to its prior authorization of a sports lottery on the NFL in the late 1970s, Delaware was exempt from specific provisions of the federal Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) enacted in 1992.
Although PASPA barred Delaware from offering single-game wagering on sports, the state was permitted to conduct multigame parlay betting.
Following the repeal of PASPA by the United States Supreme Court in May 2018, Delaware welcomed comprehensive sports betting. BetRivers, which took over from 888 Holdings in 2023, is the sole online sports betting and iGaming operator in the state, succeeding the Delaware Lottery partnership.
The sports betting kiosks operated by the lottery are supplied by Scientific Games, utilizing Caesars Sportsbook's technology. The business collaboration between Scientific Games and Caesars in the sports betting sector has been established since 2018.
Delaware Sports Betting Regulations
Individuals aged 18 and older can participate in draw and instant games from the Delaware Lottery, but those interested in sports betting must be at least 21 years of age. This age restriction also applies to casinos.
It is the duty of lottery retailers to make sure that only customers aged 21 and over utilize the sports betting kiosks. These kiosks accept only cash and debit card payments, as the use of credit card deposits is not allowed.
